Interferometric synthetic aperture radar is a radar technique used in remote sensing to generate maps of the elevation of the earth’s surface.
In 2010 the Statewide Digital Mapping Initiative lead the collection of 157,000 square-kilometers of airborne IfSAR data. This new IfSAR collection will be integrated into the USGS National Elevation Dataset and GINA/SDMI services. Details of the progress of the SDMI DEM project can be found at alaskamapped.org/dem.
