GINA works with the Alaska Energy Authority on two projects.

Alaska Energy Data Inventory

Alaska Energy Data Inventory>Alaska Energy Data InventoryThe Alaska Energy Data Inventory (AEDI) project's mission is to provide easy access to Alaska's energy data in formats people can actually use.

GINA works with the AEDI to provide web map interfaces to their Renewable Energy Atlas of Alaska and hosting of their data and publications.

Proposed Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project

Alaska Energy AuthoritySusitna-Watana Hydro is a large hydro project that would provide long-term stable power for generations of Alaskans. The project will generate 50 percent of the Railbelt’s electricity, or 2,800,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of annual energy, once it comes online in 2024. The installed capacity is 600 megawatts (MW).

GINA works with the AEA SuWa project in the role of coordinating, collecting, reviewing, archiving and distributing the large geospatial raster datasets such as aerial imagery, satellite imagery, elevation data, and historical data for the Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project.   The raster datasets are made available at http://gis.suhydro.org

GINA’s role was expanded in 2013 to include vector geospatial datasets such as hydrology, wildlife habitat areas, water quality, geology, etc. Data collection is performed by a number of sub-contractors, making a smooth pathway for data compilation and distribution essential to ensure that all stakeholders have access to the most current and accurate datasets available. In addition, these datasets must be curated and archived in a manner that maintains their integrity and usefulness long into the foreseeable future.
