AlaskaView is part of a larger, nationwide program known as AmericaView. AmericaView is a nationwide partnership of remote sensing scientists who support the use of Landsat and other public domain remotely sensed satellite data through applied remote sensing research, K-12 and higher STEM education, workforce development, and technology transfer.

GINA is the Alaska member of AmericaView. In previous years, the program has funded GINA to provide satellite images to many Alaska-based institutions including the Alaska Fire Service and the Alaska Geospatial Data Clearinghouse, as well as to develop new image browsing tools such as Swathviewer.

In the past year, AlaskaView provided an Augmented Reality Sandbox, an outreach and education tool primarily for K-12 audiences, to the Fairbanks Children's Museum.

The Augmented Reality Sandbox maps and displays terrain elevation through the use of a Kinect and projector, remaps when the terrain is altered and simulates rain. This enables the teaching and interpretation of topographical maps and watershed dynamics.
