A weather front is approaching southeast Alaska and these images of microwave satellite products provide a lot of information regardng what you would want to know about it. The first image is the AMSR2 ocean surface wind showing a maximum of 55 kt winds along the outer coast near Sitka. The second image is a combination or MiRS rain rates (pink-blue-cyan) and MIRS snowfall rates (blue-green-red) showing rain in the southern panhandle and snow in the north. The second is the AMSR2 wind showing 55 kt winds near the outer coast south of Sitka. The red area of heavier snowfall rates was just south of Haines, AK and moving north. Shortly after this satellite pass the visibility in Haines went to 1/4 mi in snow.
